Description:
Abstract:
Data from the USGS raingauge is available from 2005 to the present. Data from all of the other raingauges is available between 1963 and 1984. All of the raingauges, except the USGS raingauge, are the National Weather Service standard 8" raingauges. The USGS raingauge is a tipping bucket style raingauge. Automatic recording wells measure the water table depth below the ground surface. Data from these wells is available between 1996 and 2003 to the present. Data is reported for the following variables at the respective weather stations: Met 5, Met 25 and Lotti Road field stations: Daily rainfall and daily mean air temperature (for varying historic periods). Hourly instantaneous air and soil temperature (starting in September 2001). Hourly rainfall (starting in September 2001). Turkey Creek weather station: 30-minute averages for air temperature, soil temperature, solar radiation, wind speed and direction, relative humidity and vapor pressure (calculated), as well as 30-minute rainfall and maximum and minimum relative humidity (starting in October 2005). Santee Headquarters weather station: Daily rainfall and daily mean air temperature (1946-2000). Hourly average solar radiation, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) , wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, and vapor pressure (calculated), as well as hourly rainfall and maximum and minimum relative humidity (January 1996 through February 2003). 30-minute average solar radiation, net radiation, wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, and vapor pressure (calculated), as well as 30-minute rainfall and maximum and minimum relative humidity (starting in April 2003). Daily averages or totals for solar radiation, net radiation, PAR, wind speed, vapor pressure, RH, air temperature and rainfall (starting in January 1996). Watershed 77 and the weir at its outlet were established in 1963. Prior to September 1995, stage was measured using an ADR device (flow rate was derived using stage-discharge relationship equations specific to the weir). In September 1995 a Teledyne-ISCO 3210 flowmeter was installed (which also measured stage). The 3210 was replaced by a 4210 flowmeter in August 2002. Watershed 78 (the Turkey Creek Watershed) was established in 1964 and stage was measured until 1984 using an ADR device (at a location about 800 meters downstream from the currently established site on Highway 41 near Huger, SC). In February 2005 the US Geologic Survey set up a gauging station at the Highway 41 N bridge over Turkey Creek. They installed a Sutron 8210 flow logger interfaced with Satlink 2 and linked to a bubbler-type sensor on the streambed to measure stage level every 15 minutes. Watershed 79 and the weir at its outlet were established in 1966. Again, in the early days stage was measured with an ADR device. A Global Water GL300 datalogger and associated WL300 pressure transducer were installed in January 2002, and a Teledyne-ISCO 3210 flowmeter was installed in July 2003. The 3210 was replaced by a 4210 flowmeter in February 2008. Watershed 80 and the weir at its outlet were established in 1968. Prior to September 1995, stage was measured using an ADR device. In September 1995 a Teledyne-ISCO 3210 flowmeter was installed. The 3210 was replaced by a 4210 flowmeter in August 2000. The Watershed 80 boundary changed on November 6, 2001, when a culvert was installed across Yellowjacket Road draining a portion of Watershed 80 into Watershed 79, thus reducing its area.
Purpose:
The purpose of the dataset is for easy identification of certain field instruments in the Santee Experimental Forest. As a research forest, locations of these instruments are vital for research efforts in the region. Also, temporal data collected from the instruments can be linked to each instrument to make for easy data viewing and analysis.
